Summary

When Dimple Met Rishi meets Ugly Delicious in this funny, smart romantic comedy, in which two Vietnamese-American teens fall in love and must navigate their newfound relationship amid their families’ age-old feud about their competing, neighboring restaurants。

If Bao Nguyen had to describe himself, he’d say he was a rock。 Steady and strong, but not particularly interesting。 His grades are average, his social status unremarkable。 He works at his parents’ pho restaurant, and even there, he is his parents’ fifth favorite employee。 Not ideal。

If Linh Mai had to describe herself, she’d say she was a firecracker。 Stable when unlit, but full of potential for joy and fire。 She loves art and dreams pursuing a career in it。 The only problem? Her parents rely on her in ways they’re not willing to admit, including working practically full-time at her family’s pho restaurant。

For years, the Mais and the Nguyens have been at odds, having owned competing, neighboring pho restaurants。 Bao and Linh, who’ve avoided each other for most of their lives, both suspect that the feud stems from feelings much deeper than friendly competition。

But then a chance encounter brings Linh and Bao in the same vicinity despite their best efforts and sparks fly, leading them both to wonder what took so long for them to connect。 But then, of course, they immediately remember。

Can Linh and Bao find love in the midst of feuding families and complicated histories?

Rounding up, this was more 3。5 stars。 I enjoyed the story, in the beginning I struggle to sustain attention but by the end I was glad that things improved。 I loved that both of the main characters had an appreciation for the arts and tried to remain true to themselves in that sense。 I think Bao was a little too dramatic at certain points, but I do get the teen boys overreact often

I listened to the audiobook。 The audio performance was great and I love that they used different people for both main characters。This story was both adorable and heartwarming。 But don't read on an empty stomach。。。all I want is a delicious bowl of Pho 😅 I listened to the audiobook。 The audio performance was great and I love that they used different people for both main characters。This story was both adorable and heartwarming。 But don't read on an empty stomach。。。all I want is a delicious bowl of Pho 😅 。。。more

While a Romeo and Juliet remake is not the most original in essence, this one's setting — in vibrant Little Saigon where Linh and Bao's parents own rival pho restaurants — and characters are unlike anything I've seen before。 It took a little while to get off the ground and Linh and Bao's first encounter is pretty delayed at the start, but once it did it was really charming。 Their relationship is so precious and completely unencumbered by the classic problems teen romances have (jealousy, insecur While a Romeo and Juliet remake is not the most original in essence, this one's setting — in vibrant Little Saigon where Linh and Bao's parents own rival pho restaurants — and characters are unlike anything I've seen before。 It took a little while to get off the ground and Linh and Bao's first encounter is pretty delayed at the start, but once it did it was really charming。 Their relationship is so precious and completely unencumbered by the classic problems teen romances have (jealousy, insecurity, etc。)。 My high-school-art-geek heart loved watching how they selflessly pushed each other to follow their artistic dreams。 The underlying drama dividing their families is a lot more nuanced and complicated than you'd imagine at the start of the book, which really gives credence to their long-standing feud and keeps the back half of the book moving fast (mysterious family drama? Sign me up)。 I would definitely recommend this read, especially to anyone who loves to eat。 The way they describe food in this book is mouth-watering。 。。。more

The perfect comfort book。 A Pho Love Story is an adorable take on first love, family feuds, living up to your family’s expectations, and delicious descriptions of food。 Great for a young audience or for anyone that just wants to feel warm and fuzzy。While this book followed a predictable story arc, the main characters were as sweet as can be。 I spent the entirety of the book wanting to give them a giant hug。 (And shed an actual tear or three towards the end。) The story follows two high schoolers The perfect comfort book。 A Pho Love Story is an adorable take on first love, family feuds, living up to your family’s expectations, and delicious descriptions of food。 Great for a young audience or for anyone that just wants to feel warm and fuzzy。While this book followed a predictable story arc, the main characters were as sweet as can be。 I spent the entirety of the book wanting to give them a giant hug。 (And shed an actual tear or three towards the end。) The story follows two high schoolers trying to navigate their way through the joys of young adulthood: New friendships。 More responsibilities。 Deciding on a career path。 And trying not to disappoint their family。 All while realizing their parents are going through struggles of their own。 It was all too easy to step into the character’s shoes and remember all the feelings that come with growing up。Warning: Bring snacks!!!! 。。。more

I really should stop reading books about food on an empty stomach 😩Cravings aside, this book was super adorable and I loved the character development especially as Bao slowly discovered his passion for writing。 As a writer, that really tugged at my heartstrings。 🥺

4。5I thought this was a YA romance, and there is that, but there is so much more。 Struggling family relationships。 Rivalries born of heartbreak。 Healing words and murals that bring people back together。 It was beautiful。

It was okay。 The audiobook was okay, the characters were okay, the plot was okay, everything was just fine。 The only thing that actually interested me was the history between their two families。 And that reveal in the end?? Guys, I LOVED this one。 I wish I could experience the joy of reading it again for the first time。 Bao and Linh are such loveable characters, and I loved the Romeo and Juliet-esque plotline。。。but make it modern。 Bao and Linh have grown up working across the street from each other at their family’s restaurants all their lives。。。so how is it that they have never become friends? As owners of competing pho restaurants, the Mais and Nguyens have been at odds for as long as they can remember。 But when Guys, I LOVED this one。 I wish I could experience the joy of reading it again for the first time。 Bao and Linh are such loveable characters, and I loved the Romeo and Juliet-esque plotline。。。but make it modern。 Bao and Linh have grown up working across the street from each other at their family’s restaurants all their lives。。。so how is it that they have never become friends? Cute love story。 Well written & edited, tight language。 A little over-dramatic (for my tastes) about art and self-actualization, and ending reveal for me was a a bit underwhelming, but a great story of two young people who make each other better。

The pacing is a little slow for me (especially given the length), but I really enjoyed this one! Bao and Linh's romance progresses in a really sweet, genuine way, and all the rich descriptions of food made me hungry (not a great feeling when you're reading in bed at night。。。)。 Those who are complaining about the lack of translation of the Vietnamese phrases should utilize a dictionary or translation app and get over it--this book isn't only written for white people and/or folks who don't speak V The pacing is a little slow for me (especially given the length), but I really enjoyed this one! It's ok。 I didn't feel any chemistry between Bảo and Linh bzt the rivalry between the families kept me hooked。 All the food mentions made me hungry as fuck。 There were many Vietnamese phrases in this book which should've been translated somewhere。 I could understand them but I'm pretty sure they are disruptive to a non-Vietnamese speaker, especially when there's no translation。 It's ok。 I didn't feel any chemistry between Bảo and Linh bzt the rivalry between the families kept me hooked。 All the food mentions made me hungry as fuck。 There were many Vietnamese phrases in this book which should've been translated somewhere。 I could understand them but I'm pretty sure they are disruptive to a non-Vietnamese speaker, especially when there's no translation。 。。。more

I need me a bowl of pho to celebrate finishing this one。 Very cute story, everything was so beautifully described and I felt like a part of the culture。 I enjoyed the deeper topics that were brought up and the focus on family and seizing the moments to connect with them while we still have the chance to。

I really enjoyed this YA love story。 Thai culture and history is threaded throughout the story, the characters are vibrant and full of heart, the love story is sweet and relatable。 I liked that although I hoped it would end the happy way I predicted, I wasn't always sure how they were going to get there。 This book left with a craving for Thai food and a smile on my face。 I really enjoyed this YA love story。 Thai culture and history is threaded throughout the story, the characters are vibrant and full of heart, the love story is sweet and relatable。 I liked that although I hoped it would end the happy way I predicted, I wasn't always sure how they were going to get there。 This book left with a craving for Thai food and a smile on my face。 。。。more
